Overview
The Production & Producing Assistant will play a vital role in supporting Necessary Angel's ongoing events and programs, gearing up for the 2025/26 theatre season. This encompasses one mainstage production, ongoing NA LAB development projects; including workshops, artists in residence, and artistic development initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity for individuals to acquire the skills, work experience, and abilities necessary for a successful transition into the professional labour market, specifically within the performing arts industry.
While some tasks may be carried out remotely, the majority will take place in the office and at rehearsal or workshop venues in Toronto, ON. The Production & Producing Assistant will gain insights into the planning required to operate an arts organization, actively participating in facilitating artistic activities. This includes preparations for touring productions, assisting with theatre workshops for plays in development, involvement in marketing and communications, as well as engaging in organizational planning and administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
Providing support to the General Manager in the preparation and execution of the 2025/26 season including producing partner relations, contracting, seasonal planning and critical path creation for project management for departments related to theatre productions including Producing, Marketing, Communications, and Development.
Producing | Providing support to the General Manager in the preparation and execution of contracts with producing partners, artists, and production personnel for the 2025/26 season
Production | Assisting with the coordination and facilitation of the upcoming NALAB projects, focusing on scheduling workshops and reading, artist coordination, booking designers and preproduction in May/June/July 2025
Production | Sourcing production materials and securing quotes as needed for the 2025/26 season
Artistic Development | Assisting the Artistic Director with various artistic activities, such as workshops for the 2025/26 season, including printing scripts, setting up the rehearsal hall, taking notes, and assisting with the loadout of the workshop once completed
Producing | Aiding in scheduling programming artistic activities, including workshops and production activities
Producing | Providing administrative support, including office systems maintenance and organization, encompassing hard and electronic filing to streamline the work environment
Outreach | provide support to the General Manager in the creation of the Marketing & Outreach critical paths for the 2025/26 season including planning special events, outreach to audiences and special interest groups, students and senior groups.
Additional Skills
Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Positive and professional attitude to work with stakeholders, including donors, artists, and the public.
Ability to show initiative and be extremely dependable.
Computer skills: familiarity with Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Sumac, donor databases, and Canva
Requirements
As part of the requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs program, the applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements, at minimum:
Is between the ages of 18 – 30 at the start time of employment
Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
Has a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and is legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations in Ontario
Work Hours & Compensation
This is a full-time, 9-week contract position working 30-hours per week. Flexible working hours are provided. Wages: $25.00/hour
