Overview

The Fundraising Organizer | Development & Communications Assistant will play a pivotal role in supporting the Development & Communications Manager at Necessary Angel. Their primary focus will be on assisting with ongoing efforts to diversify and secure revenue for the nonprofit's continuous artistic activities and community engagement. The Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Manager in preparation for the 2025/26 theatre season, encompassing our mainstage production and NALAB development projects, which include workshops, artists in residence, and artistic development initiatives.This role offers a valuable opportunity for the Fundraising Organizer | Development & Communications Assistant to acquire the skills, work experience, and abilities needed for a successful transition into the professional labour market, specifically within the realms of development and communications for performing arts organizations, foundations, charities, and nonprofit arts organizations.

While some tasks may be conducted remotely, the majority of the work will be carried out in the office or at rehearsal and workshop venues in Toronto, ON. The Communications & Development Manager will serve as a mentor, providing guidance and support.The Fundraising Organizer | Development & Communications Coordinator will gain knowledge related to arts organization funding and revenue sources, including both public and private funders and donors. Additionally, they will contribute to and learn about marketing and communications, as well as organizational planning and administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Providing support to the Communications & Development Manager in the preparation for the 2025/26 season, including maintaining and updating donor, foundation, corporate, and prospect information records in a centralized database.

  • Creating and implementing methods for storing and retrieving data in internal filing systems.

  • Conducting research on potential Foundation & Corporation Sponsor prospects for the 2025/26 season and beyond.

  • Participating in the creation of materials for Requests for Support, Funding Applications, or Grant Proposals.

  • Participating in the review and assessment of annual or major giving potential and prioritization of prospects.

  • Contributing to strategy and briefing materials for donor meetings.•Initiating prospect research and preparing related engagement strategies.

  • Participating in Development Strategy Sessions with NA’s development team to monitor progress against revenue goals.

  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.

  • Positive and professional attitude to work with stakeholders, including donors, artists, and the public.

  • Ability to show initiative and be extremely dependable.

  • Computer skills: familiarity with Office 365 (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Sumac, donor databases, and Canva 

Requirements

  • As part of the requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs program, the applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements, at minimum:

    • Is between the ages of 18 – 30 at the start time of employment

    • Is a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment

    • Has a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and is legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations in Ontario

Work Hours & Compensation

This is a full-time, 9-week contract position working 30-hours per week. Flexible working hours are provided. Wages: $25.00/hour
